Day 80: Koh Lanta > Koh Mook
Claire: We woke up to huge racket on our balcony and roof. Gav opened the curtains to monkeys!!!!! So many of them jumping from roof to tree to lamp post. What a sight.
Today we got a ferry to Koh Mook, a teeny tiny island in the Trang region. We'd read it was quite undeveloped but we weren't expecting it to be so untouched by tourism. There's a handful of hotels here ranging from backpacker bamboo bungalows to 5* resorts but it keeps its traditional Thai charm. As we got a tuk tuk to our hotel we passed fishing villages, children waving and locals going about their day to day life. Everybody seems so friendly, unlike some places we've visited (Phu Quoc!) where the locals seemed to hate tourists.
There's two main beaches on this island, Silvali and Haad Farang. We're staying in the middle of the two, although it only takes 30 mins or so to walk from one side of the island to the other.
We had the biggest lunch portions we've ever had at the No.1 Tripadvisor restaurant on the island (there's only 15). So dinner was a G&T and spring rolls on the little village street which had a gentle buzz of holidaymakers and locals. Koh Mook gets a thumbs up from us.
