Day 50: New Years eve in Phu Quoc
Our last night in Vietnam & the last night of 2017!
Claire: One final hotel change before we depart for Cambodia in the morning. This hotel is brand new, the owner was still oiling the door locks on our arrival. It also meant we had sparkly new rooms, fluffy towels, crisp bedsheets and never before used bathrobes!
The entertainment of the day was watching the hotel set up for their NYE party. Of which we didn't purchase tickets for. Instead we ventured out for some food and drinks, including cocktails at a bar called Bittersweet which were the best of our trip so far (bold statement, I know!).
Then I might've accidently ended up falling asleep by 10:30pm... oops.
Gav's day 50 takeaway
- So here we are, the halfway point in our adventure! Can't believe so long has passed since that grey day at Birmingham airport. But what better way to celebrate this momentus occasion than bloomin' New Years Eve! Whey! In Vietnam! Whey Hey!
- Except you didn't mention the Phu Quoc-kers don't know too much about throwing a good party. In fact, the 18 staff at our hotel had so little idea how to throw a party it was almost amazing (he said watching from a distance).
- I won't go into all the details but my highlights of the night included: watching 5 men take over an hour to put up a most horrifically designed celebratory banner, and watching the 10 or so guests that had stumped up $30 each for a buffet, one-by-one making their exit when one of the guys started to relentlessly karaoke despite having an awful voice. In fact, one girl got up just to sing over him part way through one of his numbers! Lols.
- But anyway, happy new year and all that. I had a lovely whisky sour to celebrate!!
