Day 29: Hanoi
Claire: Today we left Laos and arrived in the madness that is Hanoi! We were in the air for all of 20mins if you minus the time it takes to take off and land. We got a delicious pasty/samosa type thing on this one though, not like the yuk sandwich we got on the Thailand flight.
We've seen a few documentaries that show the mad streets of Hanoi but even that doesn't prepare you for the amount of motorcyclists on the road! I really wish I could've taken a photo but concentration is essential to stay alive. The above was taken from our hotel room about 10pm when traffic died down a little but let's a little breakdown...
We soon learnt you have to take a very slow and steady walk and hope for the best the traffic swerves you! Traffic lights are redundant. Zebra crossings are pointless. Direction of traffic is any way they please. And paths are basically parking spaces.
This youtube video sums it up perfectly
