Day 6: Exploring Chiang Mai

Claire: We really like it here and have enjoyed strolling the back streets and absorbing local life. We’re staying in the Old Town, which was once surrounded by a defensive wall (like most cities in Thailand once were) and a moat too! Our hotel is next to the Tapae Gate, which was reconstructed in the 80s and is now the gateway to the old town. The square in front of the gate is filled with Chinese tourists feeding and taking photos of pigeons on their arms (gross) so we scurry past so not to get pigeon pooed on! 

There’s SO MANY temples here, we visited only a handful (5?) but they’re so colourful and peaceful. We sit on the floor cross legged, staring at the artworks in silence. We like buddhist culture. 

Gav's day takeaway

• Lazy morning (we missed brekkie at hotel).
• So went had breakfast with the trendy Americans, nice if a little pricey.
• We wandered the old town, sooo many temples.
• Including one where we spoke with a monk who learns English, his fave dish is Khao Soi.
• We headed to the Saturday Night Market where we tried to order a crepe but failed before getting a little late grub and heading home shattered!
