Hello!

This is our little diary of a our 99 days travelling South East Asia.

Day 12: Pai > Chiang Mai

Day 12: Pai > Chiang Mai

Claire: Today we say goodbye to Pai! We've loved our time here, but there's so much more to explore... so it's time to pack our bags. We'd already booked our tickets for the bus back to Chiang Mai so we spent a lazy morning round the pool catching up on emails, booking hotels and doing the blog. We've not had much sunshine these past couple of days but it kept trying to creep through (just as we're leaving, sod's law!). We've loved having the riverside location and mountain views.

On arrival into Chiang Mai bus station we got chatting with the Thailand Tourist Police. He was very friendly and asked us for a selfie as we left (I wish I'd taken one too!). Not actually sworn law enforcement officers (despite the big gun) but they do ‘police’ the tourist industry. They’re mostly volunteers, a mix of Thai locals and ex-pats. They can act as intermediaries and translators when you’re dealing with the real police, or with scammers. It's good to know there's a number we can call if we're ever in trouble!

Our B&B this eve was cute and the owner didn't speak much English so it was mostly smiles and head nods. Staying just outside the town (so we were close to the station for our trip out again tomorrow) Gav found a lovely riverside restaurant. We didn't take any photos because we were too busy enjoying the food and wine, so here's a photo of our bus instead...
